Energy Tips from my Wise Mother

Comparisons are Odious

I often think of Mum when I am tempted to make comparisons between people, things or circumstances. Comparisons usually mean that one thing is better and the other worse. In reality, all things are just 'different'. Noticing differences and similarities is energizing, whereas comparing reduces energy for life. So the next time you compare, think of my wise mother.

Everything in Moderation - Nothing to Excess

Mum always said, 'Everything in Moderation, nothing to Excess'. Is it possible to have too much of a good thing? I believe the answer is 'yes'. If you seek energy constantly from one thing, be it food, exercise, excitement, alcohol and drugs, gambling; even adventure or sex, you can become addicted to that energy source. 'Variety is the spice of life', and energy will spice up your life.

Eat a Carrot

Whenever we were hungry and complained that there was nothing to eat, Mum would say, 'Eat a carrot'. We lived in a place where fresh fruit was not always readily available, and the carrots were a less popular option. But what good advice. The humble carrot is
  • Low in Saturated Fat and Cholesterol
  • High in Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Potassium, Thiamin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folate and Manganese
So if you want to maintain a healthy energizing diet, eat carrots. A carrot a day could easily help to keep the doctor away and it will certainly energize you.

Mum's Favourite Song - 'Look For the Silver Lining'

Like my wise mother said, 'Everything in Moderation and Nothing to Excess' will ensure you obtain the natural energy boosters that will give you the time of your life every day.

If you're feeling down and need energizing, just recite or sing the word's to Mum's favourite song - "Look For the Silver Lining"

Look for the silver lining
When e'er a cloud appears in the blue.
Remember somewhere the sun is shining,
And so the right thing to do
Is make it shine for you...

A heart full of joy and gladness,
Will always banish sadness and strife.
So always look for the silver lining,
And try to find the sunny side of life

If You Can't Say Anything Nice, Don't Say Anything at All

As I was growing up I could never understand why people could be so 'catty' to each other. I never heard my mother say anything unkind to anyone, though she had her fair share of hurtful things done to her.

It's not always easy to predict how our words will be taken by others - sometimes it is their own interpretation that twists what we say. But if we follow my Mum's advice and refrain from deliberately saying hurtful things, we will be energized by not adding to others' burdens. Having a clean conscience is a Natural "Energy Booster'.

You Can't Do Everything

Mum's answer to striving to be all things to all people was simply, "You can't do everything". This stands me in good stead these days when I feel overwhelmed with all the things that I have to do and the people I would like to serve.

If You are Going to Do Something, Do it Well

To follow on from the previous statement, Mum always urged us to do our best in whatever we decided to do. I often think of this when I am finding I am not doing any one thing properly.
