What De-energizes you? What are your issues?

  • midlife crisis

  • feeling constantly tired

How can you lead a healthy lifestyle and obtain lifetime fitness with natural energy boosters?

The Importance of Family and Friends as Natural Energy Boosters

How important is it to have the support of your family or friends?

My grown-up sons and their families live far away, in three different states of Australia, but my brother lives close by.

When I broke my arm, I phoned my brother who took me to the hospital and helped me out during the recovery period. I was lucky to also have the many friends I had made since I moved to the Gold Coast. They were there whenever I needed them and kept my energy levels high despite my disability.

When I arrived at this coastal Paradise, I knew only two people.

But I quickly joined a business organization called SWAP – ‘Salespeople With a Purpose' which was not only energizing and helpful in growing my business, but also gave me a network of friends. One of these friends introduced me to International Toastmasters.

Through SWAP I was encouraged to write my first series of self-help books, and joined the Gold Coast Writers Association where I made more friends.

I was fortunate in coming from a small town where, if you want an activity to happen, you must become actively involved: in some cases even start a group.

Many city women don’t find it easy to join groups. But I would encourage you to do so.

Friends are not only important in times of crisis, but they also provide us with a number of essential needs. Women especially need other women to share their joys and frustrations. Here are some of the ways in which friends energize and keep us healthy.

  • They share our highs and our lows and let us ‘get it off our chest’. Letting it out will help in letting it go.
  • They support us in new challenges. We all need a cheer squad to keep us going whether we are trying something new, losing weight, taking on a position at work or in the community, or handling a problem.
  • They share the fun things we do, parties, shows, dancing lessons, trips, and celebrations.
  • They help us in a practical way – when we are injured or ill, or have other physical problems, even with objects.
  • They are a source of information and inspiration.

You will probably find that, like me, you will have different friends for different circumstances. As well as my speaking and writing friends, I have a friend who surfs the net and finds fascinating inspirational websites and a friend who does readings with tea-leaves and Tarot cards.

What I have found is that true friends are friends for ever. I still keep in touch with two of my childhood buddies, and many from my teacher training years.

I remember the little poem that someone wrote in my autograph book when I was a child

False friends are like autumn leaves found everywhere
True friends are like diamonds, precious and rare.

But true friends don’t have to be rare. The old saying has a lot of truth:

‘If you want a friend, be a friend.’

I must be one of the lucky ones as I have many true friends and they keep me energized and looking forward to life every day. But I believe we create our own luck, and that’s an article for another day.

You can live your middle years and beyond with energy if you tap into the natural energy booster of friendship

Weight and Health Tips

"Is sugar fattening?

The simple answer is no! Sugar is a type of carbohydrate that is found naturally or added to a wide range of foods. Weight gain occurs when excess kilojoules are consumed, regardless of which foods they come from.

Active people can include sugar as part of a healthy balanced diet. The amount depends on how much you exercise – the more active you are the less you need to be concerned about the amount of sugar you consume (always taking care to be moderate in your consumption, of course!).

If you enjoy the taste that sugar brings to foods, always try to choose foods that contain vitamins, minerals and fibre - for example breakfast cereals, fruit buns, fruit scones or muesli bars.

Some foods that are high in sugars can be low in other nutrients. However, as long as your diet includes a wide variety of foods from the core or main food groups, and you are physically active, such foods are acceptable as 'occasional' foods or treats."

Why God made Mums

Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions

Why did God make mothers?

  • She's the only one who knows where the sticky tape is.
  • Mostly to clean the house.
  • To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?

  • He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
  • Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
  • God made my Mum just the same like he made me. He Just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?

  • God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
  • They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother & not some other mum?

  • We're related.
  • God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's mums like me.

What kind of little girl was your mum?

  • My mum has always been my mum and none of that other stuff.
  • I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
  • They say she used to be nice.

What did mum need to know about dad before she married him?

  • His last name.
  • She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
  • Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores.

Why did your mum marry your dad?

  • My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mum eats a lot.
  • She got too old to do anything else with him.
  • My grandma says that Mum didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?

  • Mum doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
  • Mum. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
  • I guess Mum is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between mums & dads?

  • Mums work at work and work at home & dads just go to work at work.
  • Mums know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
  • Dads are taller & stronger, but mums have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.
  • Mums have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mum do in her spare time?

  • Mothers don't do spare time.
  • To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mum perfect?

  • On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
  • Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your Mum, what would it be?

  • She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
  • I'd make my Mum smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
  • I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the backof her head.
